NOTICE: Planning for upcoming events - Indicate your interests!!!
This is to summarise the coming events to be organised by VNSoton. Some of them are just ideas at the moment, so please indicate which one(s) you want to participate in. We will only hold events that prove to attract sufficient interest.
- The Common: The Common is an extensive green area just next to Highfield and Avenue campuses, suitable for a wide range of activities. It is particularly beautiful this season thanks to the autumn colours. The Cowherds Inn on the Avenue provides good pub food as well as a traditional British pub atmosphere. My plan is to organise a day trip to visit the Common this weekend or the next (if any later, it'd be too cold and no more Autumn colours). The activities include: a short walk exploring the Common (30' to 1h), photography (it's a shame to let the chance to capture such colorful scenes pass away), outdoor games (if we have volunteer organisers), pub drinking (at the Cowherds, soft drinks are also available), lunch at the Cowherds (for pub food experience) OR picnic in the Common (if people are willing to bring food with them).
- Women Night: It has become a VNSoton tradition that the women meet together once or twice a year to have fun without the hassle of having men around :) and to have a chance to get to know each other. The activities usually include cooking or bringing food, gossiping, games. See some of previous Women nights for an idea of what to expect: 2007, 2006. Planned to be some time in November.
- City centre shop crawl (mainly for new members): Where to buy Asian food? Where to get a winter coat, a pair of football boots, or a kettle? Where I can have a fancy dinner? How about cinema? Casino? Take a walk with us in the city centre to have a glimpse of all the shops and venues that you might ever need to know of.
- Golfing (pitch and putt): Try the sport to see if you have the talent. No equipment or previous experience is required. Great fun. Can be combined with the next activity.
- Riverside park and Portswood (mainly for new members): Riverside park is another scenery green area in Southampton, with the Itchen stream and lots of space for outdoor games and sports. This event will introduce you to the park with a walk along the river to St. Denys then back to Portwood to know one of Southampton's centres with lots of pubs and useful shops (on U1 and U6 routes).
- Xmas Party: This annual event has always been popular with lots of food to try and lots of games to embarass youself. In brief, just one big party for everyone before hibernating in their rooms or zooming away to some nice place during the Christmas vacation. See some photos here: 2007, 2006, 2005.
